We are looking for people to join our existing volunteer crew
If you are passionate about Saving Lives at Sea, willing to learn new skills and ready to put your life on hold when the pager goes off, this could be the volunteering opportunity for you! Being a Volunteer Lifeboat Crew member is one of the most exciting and fulfilling roles you can do.

We are looking for team players, who are physically fit, can follow directions when required to, and can get along with people easily. Our crew members need to be over 18, and under 55 for Inshore Lifeboats, or 65 for All-Weather-Lifeboats.

Do I need maritime experience to apply? No! Only 1 in 10 lifeboat crew members have professional maritime experience. The RNLI’s world class training programme will provide you with all the skills you need to Save Lives at Sea.

Here at Newhaven RNLI, we operate a Severn Class All-Weather-Lifeboat. We are also about to begin a two-year trial of a D Class Inshore Lifeboat. We launch to a wide range of shouts from assisting trawlers, to rescuing stranded animals. Since 1824, we have launched 2,608 times!

Lewis Arnold, ALB Coxswain Mechanic, said: “Our volunteers are the backbone of our operations. With the D Class trial due to start, we are looking to recruit new volunteer crew members to join us at Newhaven RNLI. We are looking for dedicated, passionate, and committed people to join our lifesaving team”.

Roger Cohen MBE, Lifeboat Operations Manager, added: “We are looking forward to welcoming new volunteers to join us at Newhaven RNLI. Our charity couldn’t function without the hard work, dedication and time put in by our volunteers. We look forward to hearing from the community”.

Notes to editors
• Newhaven RNLI was established in 1803, and covers from Beachy Head to Brighton. It’s a modern afloat station and operates an all-weather Severn class lifeboat.
• ALB – All-Weather-Lifeboat
• ILB – Inshore Lifeboat
• Newhaven’s D Class Trial – Newhaven RNLI is undertaking a two year long trial of operating a D Class Lifeboat alongside our Severn Class ALB.
• Severn Class – Named after the River Severn, the Severn Class is the largest lifeboat in the RNLI fleet. The Severn can take on the worst sea conditions and comes into her own on long offshore search and rescues.
