Annual duck race proves pro-DUCK-tive for Rhyl RNLI
On Monday 6 May, Rhyl RNLI volunteers organised their annual Dyserth Waterfalls Duck Race raising vital funds for the charity's lifesaving service.
The local community turned out in great numbers, ensuring all 15 races throughout the day were fully booked. Onlookers gathered along the river's edge to cheer on the RNLI ducks as they dashed downstream.
Amidst the festivities stalls dotted the green, offering attendees the chance to snag souvenirs from the lifeboat shop and partake in entertaining activities like ‘Hook a Duck’ and face painting. Ever the daring bunch, a stint in the stocks with a few wet sponges was also on offer for the RNLI crew volunteers.
Ensuring safety remained paramount, the Rhyl RNLI’s Water Safety Team provided essential guidance for all water-related activities, while the beloved RNLI mascot Stormy Stan, added an extra cheer to the fun-filled day.
Sandra Hughes, one of the organisers of the event said:
‘Thank you to everyone in the community who came along to support and to the Dyserth Waterfall Committee for the fantastic turnout and successful day.
‘We raised over £2,400 this year, and events like these allow us to keep saving lives at sea, ensuring our crews are ready for service at any given moment.
‘It really was a terrific day and I want to express my full gratitude to all involved. We are one big crew at Rhyl RNLI and every member went above and beyond as usual.’
Peter Dean, the Event Lead said:
‘The bank holiday event was a great success, I’m especially proud to have been able to present an RNLI Certificate of Thanks to Dyserth Waterfall Committee for their continued support since the event was founded in 2015.
‘It has been an honour to work with the committee since the outset, and we are all very excited to continue this into the future.’
