Wells RNLI rescues two people from Stiffkey Marshes.
On Friday 10 May at 9.18pm Wells RNLI D class lifeboat ‘Peter Wilcox’ was launched.
It was a beautiful calm evening, with a high tide, when two walkers found themselves cut off by the tide on the marsh at Stiffkey.
The D Class lifeboat with a volunteer crew of three launched and reached the two casualties by 9.40pm on Stiffkey Marsh. Both were cold but unharmed and were taken by the lifeboat to safety and left in the care of waiting family on the shore near the campsite.
The crew returned safely to the Wells boathouse, where they cleaned and refueled the lifeboat by 10.10pm.
Notes to the editor.
Wells RNLI has a D Class Inshore Lifeboat ‘Peter Wilcox’ and a Shannon Class All Weather Lifeboat ‘Duke of Edinburgh’. The boathouse and the All Weather Lifeboat were new in 2022. The ‘Duke of Edinburgh’ lifeboat was the first Launch a Memory lifeboat in England, which has 15,000 names printed on the decals. This helped to raise much needed funds for the RNLI and attracts thousands of visitors to the station.
