Hoylake RNLI’s volunteer crew aim to beat last year’s fundraising total of £1,100

The volunteer Hoylake RNLI lifeboat team will get in gear for their annual Mayday Car Wash to scrub, rinse and polish visitors' cars for just £5 per vehicle.

From 10am to 1pm the crew will aim to beat last year's total of £1,100, with all the funds raised going to support their lifesaving work.

Hoylake RNLI Coxswain Howie Owen said: ‘We’re looking forward to this year's fundraising car wash. Our community is so supportive of Hoylake RNLI and we hope they’ll turn out again to donate to their local lifeboat station.’

‘Our crew clean our lifeboat, hovercraft and tractors thoroughly after every launch, so visitors can be sure their cars will leave looking ship-shape!’

Hoylake RNLI’s volunteer crew launched 35 times in 2023 and 37 times in 2022. With demand for its lifesaving services at a high, the RNLI is putting out its own 'Mayday' call, urging the public to donate through events like Hoylake’s car wash. Funds raised will ensure that lifeboat crews and lifeguards have everything they need to save lives around the coast.

The RNLI’s Mayday national fundraiser began on 1 May and runs for the whole month across the UK and Ireland.

Warmer weather draws more people to the water and the RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews will drop whatever they’re doing when a call for help comes in.

Howie added: ‘We're ready 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to emergencies. Your support funds training, kit, stations and fuel - just some of the things we need to save lives, so please come and help us beat our fundraising total from last year.’
