Our volunteer crew at the station launched their Atlantic 85 B-Class lifeboat ‘David Porter MPS’ into clear visibility but rough and choppy seas conditions and made their way to the last reported location around Point Clear.

When the crew arrived on the scene it was discovered that the jetski had developed a malfunction and had broken down. The crew quickly made contact with the casualty and performed a welfare check and the casualty was found to be OK.

The crew established a tow line and safely towed the jetski back to the Brightlingsea/Point Clear area and the casualty was safely returned ashore.

At this point the crew were stood down and the lifeboat returned to the lifeboat station, where it was cleaned, refuelled and was ready for service by 13.45.

An RNLI spokesperson said “We were pleased to be able to assist the casualty in returning to the shoreline safely. It demonstrates that faults with vessels can and does happen and being prepared by carrying communication devices to alert the coast guard is essential.

Always take some form of communication device with you, especially if going to sea alone.”
