Darkness Into Light: RNLI Lifeboats Gather for Mental Health Awareness

Lifeboats News Release

Early on the morning of 11 May, Dunmore East RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew members, along with colleagues from Kilmore Quay RNLI and Fethard RNLI stations took part in the annual Darkness Into Light walk, standing in solidarity with those affected by suicide and mental health challenges.

The trio of RNLI lifeboats, Shannon Class (Relief Boat) from Dunmore East, Tamar Class from Kilmore Quay and D-Class from Fethard, convened just off Hook Head Lighthouse, Co. Wexford. The flanking stations regularly conduct joint exercises, but this one was a little different.

Peter Grogan, Lifeboat Press Officer at Dunmore East RNLI commented;

'We wanted to add our own RNLI twist to the event with a 5am sunrise exercise at sea. Together, our crew wish to reinforce the message that even in the darkest moments, there is light and strength our community, both locally in our respective villages but also within our extended RNLI family.'
