Volunteers from Hunstanton RNLI were scrambled at 3.40pm after assistance was requested by HM Coastguard.

They quickly made their way south down The Wash, as the tide was falling in the estuary.

The three-strong crew located the 22ft yacht on the Seal Sands, near King's Lynn.

They checked that the two people on board the vessel were not injured and had adequate supplies to wait for the tide to turn and re-float them.

The hovercraft returned to station at around 6.30pm, when it was washed down, refuelled and re-housed ready for service.

Notes to editor
This year marks the 200th anniversary of both the founding of a lifeboat service at Hunstanton and the founding of the RNLI, whose work would not be possible without donations from its supporters.

The station operates both an Atlantic 85 fast inshore lifeboat, Spirit of West Norfolk and the search and rescue hovercraft Hunstanton Flyer.
