Did you see it? The new look Scarborough RNLI shop launched this weekend
Volunteers reopened the Scarborough RNLI shop on Friday 17 May 2024 after a midweek closure to give the shop a fresh look in time for the start of the summer season.
Nestled next to the boat house of Scarborough RNLI, the station's shop makes it so simple to support RNLI lifesavers. From branded clothing, gifts gadgets and souvenirs, to even tea, coffee and biscuits every pound spent in the Scarborough RNLI shop helps to save lives at sea.
Michael Turner, volunteer Shop Manager, at Scarborough RNLI commented: 'The shop looks fantastic. We still stock a wide variety of toys, gifts, homeware, sweets, clothing and stationery, many unique to the RNLI, as well as a dedicated section for RNLI200 souvenirs.
‘Buying something from an RNLI shop may be the first time a customer comes into contact with our charity too. We have a passionate team of shop volunteers here at Scarborough, all here to ensure that our shop is a friendly place for our supporters to visit. Customers can also learn about the lifesaving work of the RNLI whilst selecting their purchase. Hopefully, this new, more attractive look will add to our customer's experience, encouraging new and repeat supporters to come and visit.'
To see the new look, the Scarborough RNLI shop is open every day 10am-4pm from Easter and throughout the season or 11am-3pm in the winter.

RNLI shops started life as simple cake stalls run by volunteers to raise money for their local lifeboat station. These stalls started selling official commemorative RNLI products for our 1924 centenary and quickly moved on to selling souvenirs and Christmas cards. Stalls then grew into community shops at our stations and we started to standardise the look and feel of our shops from 1990 onwards.
