It was great that our local RNLI Lymington Lifeboat Station and their volunteers were able to once again host the annual Lymington Lifeboat 10K and Children’s Fun Runs.

The local community charity event, which was the 20th one, raises funds for the local station and will primarily help raise funds for crew lifesaving kit and crew training. Whilst it was not the highest in entry numbers, it was just over 50% up on last year for 10K entries which was fantastic. We had 936 entrants for the 10K and over 250 children who ran in the four age group categories. The generous sponsors of the event cover the cost of the event being put on so that all the entrants entry fees, individual sponsorship and donations all go to the lifeboat station.

The main 10K event, who’s headline sponsor, is the Yacht Haven Group, starts and finishes at Woodside. After heading out of the park the route takes the runners down to Keyhaven and returns back along the sea wall to return back at Oxey Barn and into the back of Woodside, and then it’s a sprint to the finish located close to the Woodside Pavilion.

The Children’s runs take place in Woodside and have four courses for the different ages. The Children’s Runs are sponsored and supported by The Daily Mile and is delivered worldwide by the organisation, in partnership with INEOS and aims to inspire children to be more healthy and active through well organised running events. The goal of The Daily Mile is to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our children – regardless of age, ability or personal circumstances.

The event was attended by the Town Mayor, Cllr Jack Davies, who kindly assisted the Lymington Lifeboat Chair, Steve Billett, with all the start.

Other Sponsors and contributors, that the Lifeboat Crew are indebted to (there are too many to mention them all), are, Chewton Glen, Spencers New Forest, Elliotts, SenSpa, Colten Care, Dunfords, HM Coastguards, Lymington and Pennington Town Council, for the use of Woodside Park and of course the Mayor, Cllr Jack Davies.

Richard Clarke, one of the volunteer crew members and the event leader said; “Yet another ‘Run In The Sun’, and yet again, I have been bowled over by the Lymington Lifeboat Crew; their organisation and professionalism in delivering the infrastructure to put on this event is second to none. It is truly reflective of everything they do on a day to day basis when they undertake their RNLI volunteer roles. Alongside the Crew are numerous sponsors, organisations, and individuals who volunteered their time and resources, to deliver a hugely successful day for the local community, as well as the Lymington Lifeboat Station. A massive thank you to everyone involved, who supported us, and we very much look forward to commencing the planning stages for next year’s event, which we hope will be bigger and better, on the 11 May 2025.”

The fastest women’s time for the 10K was Susanna Hill, with a chip time of 41.54, whilst the men’s fastest time was Kevin Willshire with a chip time of 35.16.
