Blackpool RNLI Volunteers Promenade Boat Pull 2024
Blackpool RNLI volunteer crew members are set to pull one of the inshore D class lifeboats along Blackpool Promenade this coming May bank holiday weekend (Saturday 25 May), raising awareness of the importance of water safety and collecting donations.
Commencing at 1pm at Blackpool Lifeboat Station, Shop and Visitor Centre on Central Promenade, and repeating a tradition stretching back years, Blackpool RNLI volunteer crew members are set to pull the inshore D class, Blackpool Endeavour, to the South Pier and back.
Active volunteer crew members will be seeking to engage the public on their route, on what should be one of the busiest tourist weekends in Blackpool so far this year. They will also be accepting donations for the lifesaving charity that relies on generous donations to continue its lifesaving work.
The event is organised by the Friends of Blackpool Lifeboat, a group of volunteers that focus on fundraising. The D class lifeboat that will be pulled, Blackpool Endeavour, was made possible through the generous donations of the Blackpool residents.
This year represents the special 200th anniversary of the RNLI, and 160 years of Blackpool RNLI. This longstanding service relies on donations from the public to maintain the 24 hours a day, 365 day a year response capability.
One of the Blackpool RNLI volunteers taking part is Launch Authority Pat Abram. Pat said:
‘Last year was a success in funds raised, despite the weather. We are hoping this year will be much better weather, and give an opportunity to raise that vital cash to help keep the service running.’
Notes to editors
- Blackpool RNLI is resourced with 100% volunteers who freely give their time to ensuring the response of the three lifeboats.
