John first joined the RNLI as a design engineer, back in 2003, and has spent 23 years working in the engineering department, where he contributed to design, structure and maintenance of the lifeboats, buildings, and lifeguarding facilities that help the charity continue to save lives at sea. Currently, John is still working within the RNLI, as the head of production and estates, alongside his volunteer crew position at Swanage RNLI Lifeboat Station.

In 2004, John joined the crew in Swanage, where he is now head launcher. Lifeboat operations manager, Rob Pullman presented John with his medal aboard the RNLI Lifeboat George Thomas Lacy.

John said, ‘Time flies! I am proud to be able to say that today I have worked for this great charity, the RNLI, for 23 years, and also this year will hit my 20th year as a volunteer crew. One tenth of the RNLI’s 200 year history. It has been an honour to be able to receive this medal for long service in such an important year for the RNLI.’
