RNLI Clacton launch lifeboat to assist vessel adrift

Our volunteer crew launched their Atlantic 85 B-Class Lifeboat ‘David Porter MPS’ into slight sea conditions and good visibility and made their way to the last reported location, adjacent to Barrow Number 3 bouy. After a short search the vessel was located and two casualties were found to be aboard.

A brief welfare check was conducted and both casualties were found to be well. The vessel had drifted approximately 1NM from the reported location, and after a brief assessment by the crew, and as the vessel was becalmed it was agreed that this was a hazard to shipping, so a tow was established.

The crew proceeded to tow the vessel to the nearest safe port, Brightlingsea, and following safe passage to this destination, the local coast guard and harbour staff assisted with the safe mooring of the vessel onto the visitors pontoon.

The crew were then stood down by the coast guard where the crew returned to the lifeboat station where the lifeboat was recovered, cleaned, refuelled and was ready for service at 6.00pm.
