Brighton RNLI launch to stricken yacht
On Wednesday (22/05) volunteer lifeboat crew from Brighton RNLI were tasked by the Coastguard to reports of a yacht close to the Western breakwater at Brighton Marina.
At 10.30am, in choppy conditions, the B-class lifeboat Random Harvest approached the yacht and confirmed that it was unoccupied.
Helm Mat Humphrey said: ‘After discussion with HM Coastguard, it was established that there were no lives at risk on the yacht, and the decision was taken not to risk the safety of our volunteers to board the boat as the conditions were unpredictable.
‘For anyone going out on the water this bank holiday, please tell someone where you are going and when you will be back – they can raise the alarm with the Coastguard by calling 999 or 112 if you are overdue.’
