RNLI Clacton in third and fourth tasking of the day
On Monday 27 May 2024 around 11.51am late morning, whilst still afloat from the previous service call, the crew were tasked to attend to a report of an unconfirmed person in the water around Walton-on-the-Naze pier.
The Atlantic 85 B-Class Lifeboat ‘David Porter MPS’ only minutes earlier having assisted two vessels that had run aground were tasked to provide safety cover in the Eastcliff beach area of Walton, where it was reported that there may be a person in the water.
Whilst enroute to this location, at 12.03pm a further service call was received by the crew from the coast guard with reports of an overturned vessel and multiple casualties in the water. The crew immediately diverted from the tasking to Walton and proceeded to the reported location to the east of Clacton pier, with further details relayed to the crew the location was Gunfleet sailing club.
Upon arrival on the scene, multiple club sailing dinghies had been recovered by the club rescue boat. Both the mobile coast guard and beach patrol were on scene in attendance too. Welfare checks on all casualties was conducted, and thankfully all were found to be safe and well and accounted for.
The crew informed the coast guard at Dover, and were asked to resume their previous tasking to provide safety cover by Walton pier at 12.15pm.
Once again on the scene, this time adjacent to popular Last Fisherman’s Café, crew stood by whilst Walton mobile coast guard crew located and assisted the casualty. At 1.04pm the crew were stood down and returned to the lifeboat station where the lifeboat was recovered, cleaned, refuelled and was ready for service at 1.45pm.
