The path above the shore had been eroded during recent storms and the area closed off to the public.

Duty coxswain Dave Sutherland, Mechanic Jordan Morrice, and volunteers Stephen Brown, Gubby Duncan, Jason Flett, Stuart Ross, and Martin Runcie responded immediately and the Fraserburgh RNLI lifeboat Willie and May Gall was launched within minutes of the pagers being activated.

Coxswain Sutherland deployed the XP Boat with Stephen Brown and Stuart Ross to access the shore in the shallow water.

Members of the HM Coastguard, Scottish Ambulance Services and Scottish Fire and Rescue assisted RNLI volunteers Shane Richardson and Mark Ritchie who were already on the shore in carrying the stretcher with the casualty to the XP Boat. The rescue helicopter 151 arrived from Inverness and was in attendance to assist if required but was later stood down.

The XP Boat with a paramedic aboard then transferred the casualty to the lifeboat which then made the short trip back to Fraserburgh Harbour where they were transferred quickly to a waiting ambulance and taken to ARI, Aberdeen.

Dave Sutherland, Fraserburgh RNLI Coxswain said: 'Thanks to all the services who attended' and he also thanked his volunteer crew for the fast response. He also stated that all at RNLI Fraserburgh hope the injured person makes a good recovery'

The Willie & May Gall returned to Fraserburgh RNLI Lifeboat Station and was refuelled and ready for its next service at 10:30pm
