Celebrating UK Volunteers' Week and the Big Help Out

Volunteers' Week starts today in the UK which, like the RNLI, is celebrating a big anniversary this year as it turns 40.

40 years of Volunteers' Week

The week is about celebrating and thanking those who give up their time to make a difference, so we want to say an extra special thank you each and every one of our amazing, selfless volunteers for the incredible, lifesaving impact that they make.

As we celebrate today, we also remember generations of lifesavers from the last 200 years.

Big Help Out

Volunteers’ Week also acts as a chance to inspire others to give volunteering a go. This year, festivities will culminate with The Big Help Out (7–9 June), aimed at encouraging even more people to become part of the volunteering community.

The RNLI are supporting this amazing initiative and have volunteering opportunities live on the Big Help Out app, including online information sessions for potential volunteers to find out more about volunteering at the RNLI. If you know anyone who might be interested, please ask them to sign up to a session.

Special offer for UK volunteers

To say thank you, RNLI volunteers and staff will receive a 15% discount in all RNLI shops and branches in the UK between Saturday 1 June and Sunday 9 June, so it's a great time to stock up on any RNLI goodies. Ask in your local shop for the details of when the discount will be running.

This discount is only for RNLI volunteers and staff, so please don't share more widely.

Saying thank you

It’s a great time to say thank you and celebrate volunteers you know this Volunteers' Week. Share your thanks with our UK volunteers via our online thank you wall, which can be accessed from the Volunteer Zone. You might also notice this on our screens in our shops and at the RNLI College in Poole this week! This is a place where volunteers and staff members can share messages and photos to show their appreciation for the RNLI’s incredible, lifesaving volunteers. Help us celebrate our fantastic volunteers by leaving a message.

If you manage volunteers in your role, check out the top tips and other resources available on the Volunteer Zone to help you say thank you.
