We’re delighted to announce that the RNLI will be holding a 200th Anniversary Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on Thursday 23 May 2024.

The Royal Household only grants a couple of special garden parties a year to mark significant milestones, so it is a great honour and privilege that the RNLI’s application has been successful. The event will be hosted by a Member of the Royal Family and will run from 3pm to 6pm.

In our 200th year, this will be a fantastic opportunity to recognise the amazing contribution of RNLI volunteers from across the UK and Ireland.

Invitees to the event will include Long Service and Excellence in Volunteering Awardees from the years 2023 and 2024, as well as Gallantry and National Honours Awardees from the same period.

Since 1824, the RNLI has relied on people dedicating their time and energy to our cause. Without our incredible volunteers the RNLI simply couldn’t save lives at sea.

Saying thank you and recognising the extraordinary contribution of RNLI volunteers is an important part of what we do. We have a special programme of recognition to ensure our volunteers are thanked and awarded. As we mark our 200th year and look ahead to the next century of lifesaving, what better moment in our history to celebrate some of these amazing people who have helped us get here.

Invitations

RSVPs for the garden party have now closed. To date, we have over 2,500 attendees confirmed (including volunteers and guests). Additional invitations have been sent to staff which will increase these numbers further.

Further information on the event can be found in the updated supplementary questions (PDF 120KB). Please look out for more information in the weeks ahead on the Volunteer Zone, or through your manager.
