Borth's station history

Inshore lifeboat station established in June with the placing on service of a D class lifeboat.

A new D-Class lifeboat D-103 was placed on service in August, this was a gift from the King George Fund for sailors.

The relief lifeboat D-73 was on station in July and August.

The relief lifeboat D-223 was on station throughout June.

The Thanks of the Institution inscribed on Vellum accorded to Helmsman Ronald Davies in recognition of his skill and determination when the inshore lifeboat was manoeuvred through a rocky outcrop to rescue two people who were trapped by the tide on a ledge near the base of the cliffs half a mile south west of the lifeboat station on 18 August. Crew members Dilwyn Owen and Richard Jeremy each received Vellum Certificates.

New purpose built brick boathouse constructed.  This replaced the Hardun type boathouse and includes crew-room, store, drying area, shower room and an area for the sale of souvenirs.
A new station D Class lifeboat, D-344 Onslaught 11, was placed on service 9 June, funded by a donation from the MV Millhouse Trust.

The Thanks of the Institution inscribed on Vellum was accorded to Helmsman Ronald Davies in recognition of his high standard of seamanship and leadership and Framed Letters of Thanks signed by the Chairman of the Institution were presented to crew members Louis Paul De La Haye and Andrew William Doyle in recognition of their valuable support and efficient manner in which they carried out their duties when on 11 July the D class lifeboat rescued two men clinging to a partly submerged rock close to a cliff face in a south-westerly Force 6 Stong Breeze and confused breaking seas.

The relief lifeboat D-334 was on station from 29 August to 8 November.

The relief lifeboat D-413 Billy Mills and George Ralph was on station from 10 June to 4 August.

In March North Wales Police agreed to pay an increased yearly fee of £500.00 for the installation of police radio equipment.
New D class lifeboat D-479 May was placed on service on 13 June.

Two relief lifeboats were on station during this year. D-426 Storrs on station from 13 June to 4 July and D-450 Anthony from 17 June to 18 December.

Relief lifeboat D-371 41 Club 111 was on station from 13 August to 21 October.

A Framed Letter of Thanks signed by the Chairman of the Institution was presented to crew member Richard Jenkins in recognition of his leadership, seamanship skills, determination and quick thinking when on 6 September the D class lifeboat launched together with the Aberystwyth Atlantic lifeboat to rescue four people cut off by the tide between Wallog and Clarach. Crew members Stuart Taylor and Lee Trubshaw received Letters of Appreciation.

Relief lifeboat D-399 Bertha was on station from 1 April.

Relief lifeboat D-448 Sea Ranger was on station from 9 February to 17 May

Bronze Medal awarded to Helmsman Amos Bewick for the rescue of the helmsman of Aberdovey’s lifeboat in severe weather conditions, with waves three to four metres and confused sea on 10 December 2000. Crew members Martyn Davies and Alex Shepard received Medal service certificates and badges.

Relief lifeboat D-436 Chloe was on station from 11 July to until 30 January 2002.

Lifeboat Operations Manager Ronald Davies has been honoured by Her Majesty The Queen in the birthday honours list and made a Member, Order of the British Empire (MBE).

The new class of lifeboat IB1, D-622 May II was placed on service on Thursday 13 May.  This lifeboat was funded by a generous gift from May Reed of Buckinghamshire.  D-479 has been withdrawn.

Combined boathouse/HMCG facility completed in November at a cost of £250,000.

Her Majesty The Queen, in the recent New Years Honours, honoured Mr Aran Morris, Vice President, Borth Lifeboat Station for services to maritime safety.  The award was Member, Order of the British Empire (MBE)

D-622 May 11 was sent for refit in May, relief lifeboat D-730 was on station during the refit.

The new station D Class lifeboat D-760 Geoffrey Scott was placed on station 16 July 2013. This lifeboat was funded by the generous bequest of Mr Geoffrey Charles Scott.  Lifeboat D-622 May II has been withdrawn.
