Burnham-on-Crouch's station history

Inshore lifeboat station established in May with the placing on service of a D class lifeboat.

Station was to have closed at the end of the summer but in view of the withdrawal of the helicopters from Manston this decision was rescinded.

A series of D class relief lifeboats were placed on service during this period for varying durations.

An Atlantic 21 class lifeboat B-700 Susan Peacock placed on temporary station duty 1 October.  D class D-335 remains on service.

Following a decision to relocate the lifeboat station to the Yacht Harbour at Burnham-on-Crouch, it became necessary to produce proposals for housing the stations B class lifeboat and to provide adequate crew facilities.  Proposals were therefore drawn up for the construction of a floating boathouse to house the B class lifeboat and these were subsequently approved.  Work commenced on the construction of this boathouse in May 1996 and was successfully completed in September 1996.

Proposals were also drawn up for the construction of a two-storey shore facility near to the floating boathouse and these were subsequently approved.  Work commenced on the construction of the new shore facility in April 1996 and was successfully completed in October 1996.

A B class Atlantic 75 lifeboat B-733 Brandy Hole placed on service on 14 February.

A D class lifeboat D-519 Ernest and Rose Chapman placed on service on 12 May.

A series of B & D class relief lifeboats were placed on service during this period for varying durations.

A new D class floating boathouse completed in July at a cost of £73,364.

For services to the Institution, former LOM Tony Glaze (deceased) has been honoured by Her Majesty the Queen in the recent Birthday Honours; Member, Order of the British Empire (MBE)

The new station D-Class lifeboat D-672 Ernest and Rose Chapman II was placed on service 10 February 2007. This lifeboat was funded by Mr & Mrs Chapman.

A new Atlantic 85 B-849 Tony & Robert Britt was placed on service in 11 August 2011.  This lifeboat was provided by a bequest of Mr Geoffrey Brian Britt together with a generous gift from Mrs Patricia Britt. Replacing B-733 which has been withdrawn.
