Galway's station history
1996
Atlantic 21 class lifeboat placed on temporary station duty at Galway on 27 March.
Temporary accommodation for the lifeboat and crew was provided. A new launching davit was also installed on the quay at this time.
Following successful completion of the evaluation period, it was agreed that permanent facilities should be provided. Proposals were therefore drawn up for the construction of a new boathouse over the revetment adjacent to the launching davit. These proposals were subsequently approved and work commenced in February 1997 and completed in September 1997.
1997
New Atlantic 75 lifeboat B738 placed on service on 3 September.
At the Executive Committee Meeting held on 23 March 1994, it was resolved that an Atlantic Inshore lifeboat be established at Galway City because of the increasing number of search and rescue incidents in the area.
Galway City is located on the north side of Galway Bay at the confluence of Lough Corrib with Galway Bay.
