Mudeford's station history

1959

Silver Medal awarded to Mr Kenneth Derham in recognition of his great courage, skill and determination when, single-handed, he put out in an 11ft rowing boat to rescue two people from a motor fishing boat in a heavy breaking ground sea on 30 March.

1963

A D class lifeboat sent to station in June.

1981

A new boathouse constructed.

The new lifeboat house officially opened on 28 June by the Deputy Chairman, Vice-Admiral Sir Peter Compston, KCB.  The ceremony immediately followed a service of dedication of the Zodiac Mark IV lifeboat and presentation of certificates of service to past lifeboat crew members.

1983

The Operational Numbers of the Zodiac Mark IV was changed from the D500 series to C500 series. Thus D504 became C504 overnight. 

1988

A crew-room constructed in boathouse in order to provide improved crew facilities.

An Atlantic 21 class lifeboat sent to the station in the spring.  A C class lifeboat withdrawn from Mudeford in the summer.

1995

The Thanks of the Institution inscribed on Vellum was accorded to Helmsman Ian Parker and crew members Stuart Ward and Toby Abbott for the service on 30 October 1994 when the lifeboat rescued a boy clinging to a pole on a rock groyne off Barton cliff and being constantly washed over by large waves in a Force 6 Strong Breeze, very rough seas and driving rain.

2003

The new lifeboat station was officially opened at a special ceremony of dedication on Saturday 25 October. The station, built to house and inshore lifeboat plus launching vehicle became operational at the end of September at a cost of £589,286.

2006

New class of lifeboat, Atlantic 85, B806 Mudeford Servant was placed on service on Friday 22 September. This lifeboat was generously funded by The Lifeboat Fund.

2012

Following the visit on Wednesday 9 November 2011 by the Coast Review delegation, led by Rear Admiral John Tolhurst, it was agreed by the Operations Committee on 21 March 2012 and resolved by the Trustee Board at their meeting on 4 April 2012 that there be no change to the lifeboat cover provided by Mudeford Lifeboat Station.
