Portree's station history
1991
Station established on 9 March with the placing on service of a Waveney class lifeboat.
1994
In order to provide the station with crew facilities a building on Portree Pier previously used by Moray Fish as a fish processing facility was identified. Internal work included UPVC double glazed windows, new main doors, internal partitioning to provide a workshop, crew room, changing room and shower and toilet facilities.
1996
New Trent class lifeboat placed on service on 7 June
Portree is situated midway along the Eastern side of Skye, 38 miles from Mallaig, 49 miles from Stornoway and 56 miles from Lochinver lifeboat stations.
It was decided by the Committee of Management in May 1989 that a station at Portree be opened early in 1991 for a 12 month operational evaluation with the long term aim of establishing Portree as a permanent all-weather lifeboat station.
