Stranraer's Station history

Inshore lifeboat station established on 4 June with a D class lifeboat, operational during the summer months only and housed in a Marley M plan boathouse.

The D class lifeboat, which is operational during the summer months only, used to be housed in a Marley M plan boathouse.  This boathouse provided very limited facilities and was nearing the end of its useful life.  Proposals were therefore drawn-up for the construction of a new boathouse on the existing site.  These proposals were subsequently approved and works commenced on the new boathouse in November 1993 and were successfully completed in June 1994.  Facilities provided by the new boathouse include, on the ground floor, housing for the D class lifeboat and launching vehicle, workshop and petroleum store.

D class lifeboat placed on all year round service.

A new lifeboat, D classD-538 Tom Broom, was placed on service on Monday 19 October.  This lifeboat was funded by Stamford Branch and Family and Friends.

The new station D class lifeboat  D-697Stranraer Saviour (Cicil Service No 49) was placed on service on 5 June.  The lifeboat was funded by the Lifeboat Fund. Lifeboat D-538 Tom Broom has been withdrawn.
