Inshore lifeboat station established in May with the placing on service of a D class lifeboat

A C class lifeboat was placed on service for one years evaluation commencing 19 April.  The class has been temporarily withdrawn.

The original boathouse provided very limited crew facilities and was of insufficient size to house an Atlantic 21 or 75 B class lifeboat.  Proposals were therefore drawn up for the construction of a new larger boathouse on a new site, and subsequently passed with work commencing in November 1996 and completed in August 1997.

New Atlantic 75 lifeboat B743 Alec and Maimie Preston was placed on service on 8 April.  The lifeboat was provided by way of a gift from Mr & Mrs Preston of Ponton.

A special framed certificate signed by Surgeon Rear Admiral F Golden and the Chief Executive presented to Crew Member Craig Allen in recognition of his compassion and very professional first aid treatment of two seriously injured persons.  The man and the woman who had survived a collision between their speed boat and a rock, had been recovered onto a yacht.  The yacht’s crew, Mr Andrew Fulton, Mr Jonathan Pilkington and Miss Catherine McVeigh were all presented with a Framed Letter of Thanks, signed by the Chairman of the RNLI, Admiral Sit Jock Slater, in recognition of their actions during the early morning of 10 July 2005.

New Atlantic 85 lifeboat B-862 James and Helen Mason  was placed on service on 26 July 2012.  The lifeboat was provided by legacy from Mrs Janet Wilson Smith from Helensburgh in memory of her late father and mother.  Lifeboat B743 Alec and Maimie Preston has been withdrawn.
