Falmouth RNLI receive another donation from local regatta
Helford Passage Regatta has raised money for the charity for the last 16 years and although the event wasn’t run in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, this year’s total of £2,380 means that the regatta has raised over £24,000 for the RNLI since 2007.
A cheque was presented to Falmouth RNLI Coxswain Jonathon Blakeston at Falmouth Lifeboat Station recently by Regatta committee members Tina Walker, Martin Winters and Ginny Hosken.
This year’s regatta, run by volunteers, was held on Saturday 5 August and was well attended. The day included beach games, tug of war, a treasure hunt, face painting and various stalls. Unfortunately, the planned water-based activities of rowing and swimming events had to be postponed until the following day due to strong winds.
Falmouth’s Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Robina Nixon Chard made an appearance at the regatta but was called away on service to assist two people cut off by the tide near Maenporth. The casualties were safely landed at Swanpool by the lifeboat.
Falmouth RNLI Coxswain Jonathon Blakeston once again thanked the regatta for their ongoing support and said: ‘Donations like this are very important in helping our volunteer crews save lives at sea. We are very grateful to have this support from the Helford Passage Regatta.’
