Angling competition nets £2000 for Falmouth RNLI
The money, raised from the proceeds of the annual Falmouth Bay Blue Shark Angling Competition, was presented to Falmouth RNLI Deputy Second Coxswains Elliot Holman and Adam West by event organisers and local skippers Andy Howell and John Locker at Falmouth Lifeboat Station recently.
This year’s competition, run over three days from 15 to 17 September, attracted five charter boats and 13 small private boats. Some of these boats had travelled large distances, including from Cumbria and Scotland, to attend the event. Previous years had been limited to local charter craft.
The competition is used to collect vital species information for organisations like the Pat Smith Shark Database and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s cooperative shark tagging program as well to help educate anglers to be stewards of the ocean.
On receiving the money, Deputy Second Coxswain Elliot Holman thanked Andy and John and said: ‘As a charity, donations like this are very important to the RNLI and help our volunteer crews save lives at sea. We are very grateful for this support.’
