Mark Dowie
Mark, appointed Chief Executive in May 2019, is a former naval officer and company director. A keen sailor, he was also Lifeboat Operations Manager at Salcombe Lifeboat Station for 2 years.
Chief Executive
Mark brings with him significant corporate leadership experience having been a senior commercial and investment banking professional who was most recently Chief Executive Officer, Corporate and Institutional Bank at Standard Chartered Bank. In this role he led the bank’s global wholesale banking business and was responsible for nearly 20,000 people in 62 countries around the world.
He has a very wide range of experience in international business management including strategic, financial and organisational change, governmental advice, and small business investment and ownership.
Mark is also a former naval officer and the former Lifeboat Operations Manager at Salcombe in South Devon. In this role he was responsible for all the operations of a busy two boat station and he therefore has first-hand experience of leading and volunteering for the RNLI.
A summary of Mark’s career since leaving university is as follows
1982 to 1990 – Royal Navy Officer
1990 to 2004 – Corporate Finance executive to Managing Director with Baring Brothers, Jardine Fleming and UBS. Vice Chairman Investment Banking at UBS.
2004 to 2010 - part-owner and managing director of Marine Services, Sales, Engineering and Fuel Bunkering companies based in Devon.
2011 to 2016 –Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore and London. Group Head, Corporate Finance and also Group Head, Financial Markets. Chief Executive Officer, Corporate and Institutional Bank.
Mark is married to Hazel and has three adult children. He and his family live near Kingsbridge in South Devon. He is a very keen sailor, gyrocopter pilot and history buff. Mark is also a former Justice of the Peace, trustee of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and Vice Chairman and trustee of the Britannia Association.
