Dr John Killeen

‘It is an honour to be a volunteer in an organisation that has saved so many lives for almost 200 years, and my hope is that I can contribute to the RNLI in their continuing delivery of this invaluable service to society in the seas and lakes that abound around and in our isles.’

Dr John Killeen was appointed as a Trustee in 2020. He has been serving as a member of the RNLI Council since 2017, the Council for Ireland since 2016, and the Audit and Risk Committee since 2019. 

John is an engineer, and was president of Engineers Ireland 1995–1996 and founding president of the Academy of Engineering in Ireland in 1996–1998. His career also spans working with local government and a multi-national construction company.

John is currently chairman of the Marine Institute, which is responsible for all maritime research and fishery controls in the Irish maritime environment. He is also President of the Timoney Leadership Institute – a charity set up during the financial crisis in 2011, which promotes international leadership training for Irish CEOs and senior public servants.
