Larne's station history

1994

D class lifeboat was placed on service at Larne on 26 September.

1995

Waveney class all-weather lifeboat placed on temporary station duty as of 19 March.

1996

New D class lifeboat D499 was placed on service on 8 June.

1997

Waveney class lifeboat ON 1079 was withdrawn and replaced by Arun class lifeboat ON1067 on 11 November.

2000

The new station Trent class lifeboat ON1246 Dr John McSparran was placed on service on 3 August 2000.  A new float berth for lifeboat completed in May. ON1067 Hyman Winstone withdrawn to Relief Fleet.

2005

The new class of lifeboat IB1, D646 Hannahbella Ferguson was placed on service on Thursday 4 August. D499 has been withdrawn.

Letter dated 26 January 1956 - The Institution has never established a lifeboat station at Larne, although various investigations have been made over the years.

In March 1994 following a further investigation the Committee of Management resolved that a lifeboat station be established in Larne Harbour.

Larne is situated between Red Bay and Bangor Inshore Lifeboat Stations. Donaghadee is the nearest all-weather lifeboat station.
