Grace and Thomasin’s dress

All girls share dresses with their sisters, mothers, cousins or friends. Grace and Thomasin Darling were no exception. In addition, they probably would not have had the money or opportunity to wear fine clothes like this dress very often.

Most girls share clothes with someone of a similar size. They might add a bit of padding, or use a safety pin to gather a bit of fabric. Grace and Thomasin were different sizes. Their dress has two sets of fastenings, one for each sister. This would have made it easy for each sister to ‘borrow’ the dress and look their best in it.
